Prof. Ludwig Gauckler was announced the winner of "The Golden Tricycle" award during this year's Christmas gathering of the Executive Board of the ETH.

The ETH Board appointed at its meeting on 30 November/ 1 December 2011 Prof. Markus Niederberger as Associate Professor of Multifunctional Materials.

The 5th European School on Multiferroics will take place at the Monte Verita Conference Center, Ascona, Switzerland from January 29 to February 3 2012.

Prof. Nicholas Spencer and Prof. A. Dieter Schlüter have been elected to the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Joost VandeVondele, derzeit Forschungsgruppenleiter am Physikalisch-Chemischen Institut der Universität Zürich, erhält einen Starting Grant für sein Projekt «DIAMOND - Discovery and Insight with Advanced Models Of Nanoscale».

Prof. Dr. Manfred Fiebig (*1965), currently Full Professor at the University in Bonn, Germany, was appointed Full Professor of Multifunctional Ferroic Materials and Prof. Dr. Kazimierz Conder adjunct professor of the ETH Zurich.

Prof. Dr. Joachim Meissner died on January 7, 2011 in his 82nd year. He was elected in 1974 as full professor of Polymer Physics at ETH Zurich and was active in this sector until his retirement in 1996.
