Additional information

Andrei A. Gusev was awarded the title of Professor at ETH Zurich in 2007.

He was born in Leningrad, U.S.S.R. and obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute in 1987. He subsequently joined the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. In 1990 he moved to ETH Zurich joining the Institute of Polymers of the Department of Materials. In 1998 he completed his Habilitation in the field of modeling of multiphase materials. He is a co-founding partner of MatSim GmbH and a co-founding partner and member of the steering committee of the Complex Fluid Design Consortium (CFDC) of the University of California at Santa Barbara. He has a long-standing interest in multiscale methodologies for computational design of complex-microstructure materials, development of efficient tools for treating mechanical, thermal, electric, and other properties of heterogeneous materials, and application of the above modeling and numerical tools and techniques to systems of scientific and industrial interest. His work is primary theoretical and computational and has been recently focused on coarse-grained continuum-level approaches to mesoscopic materials modeling.
