Prof. Hedan Bai Nominated Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Robotic Materials
At its meeting of 24 and 25 May 2023 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board appointed Dr Hedan Bai (*1993), currently Postdoctoral Researcher at Northwestern University, Illinois, USA, as Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Robotic Materials in the Department of Materials.
Prof. Bai will strengthen our research, teaching and technology transfer activities in the thematic area of science-driven engineering. Bai’s research aims at building soft robots that mimic some of the unique functions of living organisms, in particular the ability to sense, adapt and respond to dynamic environments in an autonomous manner. Her main interests are centered around the question of how to combine adaptive materials and optics to encode autonomy in the physical embodiment of robots. On the teaching side, she will offer attractive project-oriented courses for our students, expanding our capacity to teach topics closer to engineering. Bai is also highly interested in technology transfer and will reinforce D-MATL’s ongoing efforts on translational research.
