Admission

Doctoral students have a double status. They are registered as students and in most cases, they are employed at ETH Zurich or one of the institutions of the ETH Domain, for example Empa or PSI.

The condition for admission to the doctorate at ETH Zurich is a university diploma or Master’s degree recognized by ETH. In addition, a professor at ETH Zurich must be willing to supervise the doctoral thesis.

If you are interested in joining the Department of Materials for your doctorate, we advise you to have a look at the overview of research groups and contact the professors to inquire about available open positions. Direct recruitment through the MaP Doctoral School will be possible regularly.

Please follow the Doctoral Administration Office’s instructions regarding the application process. The contract of employment can only be drawn up, once the application for doctoral studies has been processed.
